Synopsis

The Grande Ronde River

The Grande Ronde is one of Northeast Oregon's most productive steelhead and trout fisheries. At peak seasons, anglers have an opportunity to catch up to 60 trout per day. This pristine waterway also offers some of the highest catch rates for steelhead in Oregon.

Eagle Cap Fishing Guides will lead you to the best waters ... waters most other anglers miss.

With Eagle Cap Fishing guides you get expert advice on methods and tackle most effective for the season.

Steelhead arrive in late September and stay in the river until the season closes April 15. This river provides excellent fishing opportunities for all the common methods -- fly fishing, drift fishing, bobber fishing, backtrolling, and spinners.

Grande Ronde steelhead run in sizes from 23-30 inches and 5-12 pounds.

The Imnaha River

The Imnaha is a fast-flowing, freestone river in spectacular basalt canyons.

Eagle Cap Fishing Guides are intimately knowledgeable of this wade-fishing river, and concentrate on the prime fishing lays with the best tackle and tactics for the season.

The isolated Imnaha is well-known for its steelhead, trout, bull trout and smallmouth bass.

Steelhead are in the river from October until the season closes April 15. This river offers excellent fly, spinner, bait and bobber fishing.

Steelhead sizes average 22-28 inches and 4-8 pounds.

The Wallowa River

This small, floatable river which flows through the heart of the beautiful Wallowa Valley is a rich freestone river with choking hatches of caddis flies.

The Wallowa is a premier trout fishing stream, often producing fish ranging from 18 to 20 inches in size.

It is also a good spring steelhead fishery, producing 23 to 29-inch fish from February through April 15.

Other fishing opportunities

For the adventuresome, Eagle Cap Fishing Guides also offers guided fishing trips on many of Wallowa County's smaller and more isolated streams -- Bear Creek, the Lostine, and Minam -- as well as float tube, horse pack, and fly-in trips into the Eagle Cap Wilderness. After which you are able to hike to numerous "Hot Spots" in the Lakes Basin, which is a breathtaking series of more than 20 alpine lakes high up in the Wallowa Mountains.
